When Jon was 3 years old when his parents divorced. Since Jon was nearly 1 years old, his severe problems with asthma started. He was in the hospital almost every 6 to 8 weeks with severe asthma attacks. with his parents being told that if they could get him through the night he might be okay. That went on for about 3 years. Later finding out that most of it was attributed to allergies. As medications improved they were able to get better control of his asthma.
When Jon was about 17 and still in school, he got a job working at the Coroner's Office through a training program through his high school. It was that job that got him interested in wanting to go to Mortuary College. He graduated high school and 3 months later, was enrolled at Mortuary College and moved to San Francisco. A year and a half later he went back home and got a job working for the Kern County morgue.
Jon was picked on alot in school, He was made fun of. He was called faggot and queer. His high school years is where he acquired the nickname "HIV", another insinuation that he was gay. The song "Faget" is about his high school horrors.
During his teen years he joined the school pipe band. Because of his dad's music store, Jon was also able to learn the basics for many other instruments. He would see the music teachers between appointments and ask if they could show him some stuff on whatever instrument, and him being the owners son, how could they say no?

Sex Art was Jon's first band. Ryan Shuck from Orgy was also in the band with him. It was during his stint with Sex Art, that he caught the eye of two fellow musicians. A guy named James Shaffer and his best friend, Brian Welch (Munky and Head) who were currently looking for a singer for their band. They nearly left the club too soon. They were on their way out when Jonathan took the stage. Munky and Head were blown away seeing Jon onstage so they finally got ahold of him and asked him to join their band.
They still needed a name for their band. There are many theories as to how they actually got the name KoRn. The one I hear most often was that during a party these people were talking about two guys who were eating out each others assholes and one of them blew diarrhea all over the other one and there was a kernel of corn on his tongue. So after the party, to gross people out, all they had to say was "corn". So while thinking of names, Jon suggested, KoRn and the rest is history.
After a lot of hard work and playing countless shows, they got a record deal in 1994 with Immortal Records. Their self titled album was produced by Ross Robinson and was released later that same year.
In the course of their early years of being a new band they paid their dues opening for several bands. To name a few: Ozzy, Megadeth, Danzig, and Marilyn Manson. They soon developed a following, getting air play on college radio stations. MTV had picked up their video for "Blind" and played it a few times on "Headbanger's Ball."
Jon and the rest of the boys in KoRn have since released 4 more cds following their self titled release. KoRn continues to be one of the leading bands in rock music today, as far as I am concerned, they always will be. KoRn will live forever.
Jon has a few tattoos. He has his nickname, "HIV" on his left bicep, mainly as a "fuck off" to all the jerks in high school and as a reminder that the disease is out there. On his right bicep, a Bishop tearing open his arm to reveal Jesus (it shows how corrupt religion is) and the KoRn logo on the small of his back.

With all that said, Jon continues to put his heart and soul into his music, he never lets the fans down. I am sure he will always put 100% into writing new and kickass lyrics for KoRn in the years to come.
